Conqueror's Blade Beginner Roadmap
A hand-picked unlock order that takes you from Chivalric fundamentals to a full Golden-era roster without wasting silver or Doctrine XP. Follow the steps in sequence — each unit teaches a skill you will need for the next one.
Unit Selection Boxes
As a beginner you will be flooded with unit-selection boxes. Use them to skip green and blue units — this roadmap is your guide to spending resources cleanly, without risking large time or silver losses on units you will outgrow within days.
Yorkist Household Knights
Received several nerfs. Many infantry units (see roadmap) now perform its role and counter it in the process, making Yorkists less versatile. Dagger Axe Lancers serve as a solid Vanilla CB alternative with a similar function.
- Consider investing in other Heroic cavalry or anti-infantry units instead.
- Still usable in specific compositions, but no longer a default pick.
1. Rattan Roundshields & Rattan Pikemen
Chivalric Era — Foundation
Starter Line — Shield Wall & Anti-Cavalry
Your first real infantry backbone. Roundshields hold the front, Pikemen kill anything on four legs. Cheap leadership, forgiving skills — perfect to learn Conqueror's Blade fundamentals: formations, holding ground, and counter-charging.
- Level both together — the Pike/Shield combo is still viable well into Silver era.
- Master 'Hold' and 'Skirmish' stances here before touching harder units.
- Keep them in Doctrine trees until Silver — cheap XP investment for high tempo learning.
2. Coutiliers
First Real Cavalry — Chase & Flank
Light shock cavalry that teaches you cavalry timing without the price tag of Heroic horses. Great for chasing routed enemies, hunting artillery, and finishing archers on the flanks.
- Do not front-charge shielded infantry — flank or wait for a break.
- Excels at flanking maneuvers — wheel around and charge exposed backs for a killing blow.
- Learn cavalry cycling here — it is the same skill you will use on golden horses later.
3. Condottieri Guards or Prefecture Guards
Silver Era — Core Comp
Silver Anchor Infantry
Your first heavy anchor. Both units hold longer, hit harder, and unlock the Silver-era play pattern of resilient front lines that let ranged units farm safely. Pick whichever fits your faction/aesthetic — the role is identical.
- Front-and-center formation — treat them like a wall, not a hammer.
- Inting unit — flank, DPS and hope for a second round. It is not a tank but a bruiser.
4. Wuxing
Firepower & Area Denial
Silver-era flame throwers that punish clumped enemies and shielded lines. Wuxing teaches you positioning: they only work when protected and angled correctly.
- Keep them behind your front line — they deal massive damage but are fragile up close.
- Burn enemies, spread on blobs and stack on corner fights.
5. Claymores
Heroic Era — Damage Curve
Heroic Damage Infantry
Your first Heroic-era answer to heavy armor. Claymores swing hard, cleave through clustered enemies, and start your transition from 'holding ground' to 'winning trades'.
- They are damage, not tanks — do not solo-anchor with them.
- Use their charge windows on rooted or animation-locked enemies.
6. Berserkers
High-Tempo Bruisers
Aggressive Heroic infantry with strong burst and mobility. Berserkers reward players who can read the fight and commit at the right moment.
- Do not idle-hold with them — their value is in initiated fights.
- Time their skills with hero engages for maximum crush.
7. Stalwarts
Heroic Era — Core Anchor
Heroic Anchor & Peel
Rock-solid Heroic anchor with elite peel potential. Stalwarts are the unit you park on your artillery, backline, or key chokepoint — they refuse to die.
- Use them as a peel/guard, not a damage dealer.
- Excellent for defense-side sieges and holding capture points.
8. Modao Battalion or Sunward Phalanx
Anti-Cavalry Elite
Golden shock-blade infantry that shred cavalry and heavy targets. Both raise your ceiling against horse-heavy metas — pick the flavor that suits your comp.
- Hold ground against charges — do not chase, let cavalry come to you.
- Long blades cleave through horses and heavy armor alike — a true elite anti-cav weapon.
9. Spartan Chosen
Golden Elite Vanguard
Premier Golden shock infantry. Spartan Chosen combine survivability with brutal offensive output — a rare unit that can both anchor and swing a fight open.
- Use their skill windows to break enemy formations, not to bail out losing trades.
- Pair with a peel unit — their value drops if kited or focused down.
10. Queen's Guard
Golden Era — Endgame
Golden Elite Anchor
One of the best all-round Golden anchors. Queen's Guard combine survivability, damage, and utility skills — the go-to first Golden pick for a stable front line.
- Front-anchor of a Golden comp — everything else builds around them.
- Do not waste their skill windows — coordinate with hero engages.
11. Demesne Arbalists
Ranged Ladder
Silver Precision Ranged
Heavy crossbow line that punishes armored targets from range. A great first ranged pick because their kit is simple: point, click, delete.
- Position behind terrain or shields — they are fragile.
- Quick DPS, quick to wipe. Position carefully; focused fire is not recommended on this unit.
12. Zykalian Militia
Volume Ranged & Utility
Silver-era ranged with strong sustained output. Zykalians teach you kite fights and staggered volleys — foundational skills for any late-game ranged comp.
- In blob fights they shine, alone they die.
- Keep them on high ground when possible.
13. Iron Reapers
Endgame Anchor
Golden Elite Infantry
The benchmark heavy Golden infantry — high armor, high damage, and forgiving skill uptime. A definitive endgame anchor once the rest of your roster is in place.
- High leadership cost — build your comp around them, not the other way.
- They punish over-extension; keep them fed with support and ranged cover.
14. Ironcap Archers
Toolbox Pick
Long-Term Ranged Investment
Deceptively strong Chivalric-tier archers that scale far beyond their era through doctrines and hero synergy. A staple 'quality-of-life' pick that stays in rosters for years.
- Cheap leadership, high value — perfect for mixed-cost comps.
- Invest in their doctrines early; the payoff is long-lived.
After Step 14 your roster covers every core role: anchor, damage, anti-cavalry, ranged and utility.
